Publishing currently offers two services for writers: content
editing and proofreading. Working with
4Point Press, you can have your finished product submitted as an
electronic book, in either PDF or Palm OS formats. We do charge
a nominal fee for editing, as well as formatting, your novel.
Content
Editing
Do you have
a great story line, but are having trouble scripting characters?
Or, do you have an easy time describing what your characters look
like and what they do and say, but a tough time keeping the story
flowing? These are the types of issues that a good developmental
editor can help you solve.
A development
or content editor helps make a story run smoothly by looking at
the big picture.
- "Why
is this person in the story?"
- "Why
include this detail?"
- "Why
is this chapter so long?"
- "Should
this part be here?"
These are the
types of questions a development editor will ask you when working
on making the content of your story the best it can be.
Copy
Editing and Proofreading
Once you are happy with your story lines, characters, dialogue,
and all the other core elements of your narrative, you may feel
the writing itself is still rough. Then you need a copyeditor.
A copy editor
does a close reading of your work, and combs over each line looking
for ways to smooth and improve your sentences. Occasionally, the
copyeditor will also ask questions about how a sentence or a phrase
comes off on the page. This kind of close reading helps add clarity
and gives prospective readers more confidence in your storytelling
ability.
Look for additional
services, such as book proposal writing, query letter writing, and
a "print on demand" program in the near future.
